KangaRoos History

About „Shoes need pockets!“ –
or something along these lines screamed the passionate b-baller, runner and KangaROOS founder Bob Gamm when he tried to stash away his keys before one of his jogging endeavours. With the invention of the shoe pocket, the smart architect not only made his own workout easier, but that of many other joggers around the globe. Unlike many other gimmicks, this one had a real purpose and gave the shoes an added value.
Founded in the late 70s, “SuperShoes” quickly became a household name and turned into one of the leading brands in the sports shoe segment. The special style of the KangaROOS of the early 80s manifested itself in many iconic running and basketball models that exerted an influence far beyond the decade. The “ROOS”, as Americans soon abbreviated the brand name, celebrated an enormous success. Among the reasons was also the commitment in the NFL and NBA. The most prominent ROOS testimonials were football player Walter “Sweetness” Payton and basketball legend Clyde Drexler.
Today, KangaROOS again celebrates the Chicago Bears star of the 80s with a reissue of the ROOS Sweetness. It’s part of the anniversary “Heritage Lines”, just as the legendary basketball model “Slam Dunk”, which is also reborn and much anticipated by sneaker fans worldwide.
